My Popo Kota Belud

Yes thats what me and my sis use to call my mother’s mum… popo Kota Belud. I guess it was because she was from Kota Belud. My popo KB is with the Lord now and its been about 14 years. That was a long time ago and yet at times I still think of her.

She was a real character :) When we were younger we would get really excited when my popo KB comes to visit. We know she’ll always bring goodies (food) to Tenom everytime she visits. I remember eating lots of kuihs, I especially remember eating some round kuihs brown in colour sweet, tasted like gula melaka…

She would then bring us (me and my sis) to the coffee shops and we could order whatever we wanted and if we asked she would buy anything for us. We would have the luxury to drink cola and eat keropok (by the way not to my mother’s knowledge as we were never allowed junk food when we were kids). Popo KB would give us 50cents each and we would walk round the shops with money in hand to buy whatever we fancy. I remember once me and my sis really fancied some pop pop guns. Its a small plastic gun where you have to put a roll of red paper with black dots on and everytime you pull the trigger it would make a pop sound and sometimes smoke will come out of the gun. So when popo KB took us out, we asked if we could have one and of course she bought it for us hehehehe. We would then play with our new toys and eat our keropok while popo KB chats with her friends. Aaaaaaah those were the good old days.

Oh and popo KB likes to hug and kiss kiss, I remember she’ll come over give me a great big hug and a wet wet kiss on the cheeks which I’ll wipe off quickly after.

When I got older, I stayed with her in KK. She enjoys cooking for us and every morning she’ll make us breakfast, sometimes fried eggs, sometimes fried mee, fried mee hoon there’s always something to eat. If you ever mention you like something… she’ll cook it everyday or she’ll buy loads of whatever you fancy. Yes thats my popo KB.

I did say she’s a character didn’t I… well my popo KB swears *smile smile* Yes and she’ll say things like ‘tan ta lao’ *lol* and other obscene stuff. She pronounces library as ‘bibary’ or vacuum (for vacuum cleaner) as ‘cofuum’. She likes to shout too, my oh my she can shout… She’ll stand by the door and shout for me to come home if I’m at my friend’s house 3 blocks away and yes I can hear her ‘Liiiiiiiiiiiiissaaaaaaa sit fan loooooh’. hahaha

Oh thats my popo Kota Belud…..

The 5 senses

Ever since Dylan was born I realised that I’ve improved tremendously in all my senses… Let me explain, 5 senses hear, sight, touch, taste and smell.

Hear- Always on high alert listening for sounds of crying or movement. I found that I’m really good at it, I would be  watching TV with Kev and all of a sudden he’ll see me running up the flight of stairs to the rescue!! Or I would be listening out on what sounds he make in the living room from the kitchen and I would know exactly what he’s doing…like having a mental CCTV hehehehe

Sight- Always on the look out on what the little master is doing!! Sometimes I feel as if I have eyes on my back as I can tell what he’s up to with my back facing him. I can see in the dark through a tiny crack and be able to see if the young man is sound asleep.

Taste- Always tasting milk to determine if its stale…and taste testing every single food before it goes through the master’s mouth.

Touch- I’ve mastered the skill of leaving a room in complete silence, I even know which steps on the staircase to avoid to prevent creaking noises.

Smell- Always on high alert on ‘strange’ smells, usually means someone’s done a poo!!

Well folks… these are SOME of the side effects of owning a baby!!

Goddiva Not!

IMG_6762During my last trip to London which was 2 months ago, we went to Goddiva and bought a stick of strawberries coated in white chocolate. It was yummylicious and expensivicious too!! Yesterday I was tempted to get some but we decided to try making it ourselves. So today we pop round to Sainsbury’s and bought 2 boxes of strawberries and a massive bar of cooking white chocolate. The total cost was cheaper than a stick of Goddiva strawberries!

The final product was yummmmy!!

Shopping

Went shopping yesterday with Dylan, was looking for a mascara. Walked around Selfridges, saw a sign ‘worlds best mascara’. So naturally I walked to the counter for more information. It turned out to be Lancome, I’ve never tried their products before but was open to try new stuff. The lady attending me showed me their new range one of them ’Ôscillation Powerbooster’. Apparently it vibrates!!, it nourishes the lashes and amplifies it. You can actually apply it at night to nourish your lashes. BUt you can’t use it on its own as a mascara as it stains white. Basically all it does is improve and prepares the lash for your mascara. After a lot of thinking I bought one, cost a whooping £24.50.

At the end of my shopping trip I bought, 1 shirt and woolly hat for Dylan, a splash mat, a pair of swimming pants for D, a pair of work shoes, some fish, meat, cakes etc etc BUT still no mascara.

Hahaha!!! Yet more excuses to go shopping before I start work soon!

Back on the career ladder?

Yesterday I went for my job interview with the same company I worked with before maternity. Had to go for an interview simply because I was not going back to my old place and was actually relocating. It went really well in fact so well they started naming pharmacies available for me to choose from. Thank you Jesus!

Now there’s a problem… which one do I choose, I don’t want to make a choice that I might regret. Do I choose a close one? Do I choose one with full staff? Do I choose a pharmacy with potential to grow? Do I choose one which needs a supervisor and a dispenser? or Do I choose one which is so big it needs 3 pharmacist to run at a time but its so far it takes 30 mins to reach by car? Well you see thats my problem… I asked the LOrd for some choices the other day, now He’s given me loads and…. I don’t know which one to choose. Got to ask for some directions now :)

God is so good. God is so good to me!

Drinking Cola

Kevin walked in the room holding a glass of Cola with some ice cube in it. He was shaking the ice in the glass making the all so familiar sound of ice hitting the sides of the glass. ‘clic cloc clic cloc’…

It reminded me of my daddy… Dad always likes playing games in fact I would say he’s addicted to sports. When we were young, he would go for a session of badminton in our local ‘dewan’ (in fact he still goes now). He would go right after work at 4pm and come back at about 530pm. At home he would quench his thirst with some fizzy drinks. I don’t know why but he would use a stainless steel pot put some ice in it and plonk a bottle or two of fizzy drink in it. He than shakes it a bit ‘clic cloc clic cloc’ gets a straw and starts drinking. Now while he’s doing all this, me and my sisters would be watching him like hawks with straws in our hands. Dad would then sit on a stool by the kitchen and start drinking… we would dive in stealing sips of sweet sweet fizzy drink. When he (or we) had finished me and my sisters would grab an ice or two and start munching on them.

But as we grew older I wondered what happened to that ritual…need to ask dad.

Buggyfit

Today I went for a session of buggyfit… ??

I was talking to May (a friend I met in church) on Friday: ‘Melissa I’m going for buggyfit this Tues, want to follow? You bring Dylan in his pram and you push him around doing various exercises…’

Interesting… I never thought I could do exercise sessions with my son tagging along. Turns out it was fun, such an ingenious idea!

We met up at a park, did some warm up exercises then started pushing the pram around the park…. walking briskly, running, pushing up the hill, even managed stretching exercises along the way. Dylan had fun too!! He was busy taking in his surroundings enjoying the occasional  bust of ‘speed’. He even had time to snack while his mum slaved away pushing him up the hill trying to burn some calories while he happily put some on. It rained a bit but Dylan had his rain cover on… undeterred we carried on.

The session ended in about an hour, it was great fun!!! Buggyfit I like…
